7. Nick said

Just seen that the 53/47 is marginals and they’re saying that makes national TPP is 54/46. So that’s a 6.7% swing. I guess that’s why they’re saying it.

8. Wooooooooooooooo

I mean… keeping a lid on it…

I have a chilled bottle of veuve cliquot, come on Labor, let me crack it open soon!

2007 might go down as the election who’s got more power in Australia, The Prime Minister or the humble voter who only gets a say every 3 years.

Borrowed from a bit of John Clarke & Brian Dawe come to mind. Following taken from “The Royal Commission”.
CLERK: Do you think he’ll come?
JUDGE: It’s not an invitation, it’s a subpoena. You don’t RSVP to them, you turn up or you get popped in the sneezer. If he’s worried about who’s got more power in this country, the Prime Minister or a ceremonial official appointed by the Queen, refer him to his diary for 1975.

And for the Star Trek fans, Wolf 359 comes to mind, “We are Labor, your seat will be assimilated by the collective, Resistance is futile”.

25. Cat said

I have just got in and have absolutely no idea what is happening but I just wanted to say this. I have worked on hardcore Liberal booths in Berowra (Ruddock) for 16 years. The four hours this afternoon (after 4 good hours at Parramatta in the morning) were hands down the best I have ever spent. Fabulous in fact. And even having to make nice with Ruddock himself late in the afternoon could not dent it. Who knows what will happen tonight but I actually enjoyed myself today. I hope others had a similar experience.

26. David Richards said

Costello – ne expectation of victory – stealing Howie’s thunder anbd conceding already🙂

27. thesilverbodgie said

Even El Smirk has given up,as i said before NO TICKER Costello.

28. Rain said

Thanks Cat, it may not happen but for what its worth, Ruddock is in the Top 3 of my *personal* list of front-benchers who are most deserving of defeat.

29. Aspirational Aspirationalist said

Craig Reucassel just called it on ABC. with 0.5% of the vote counted in Eden-Monaro, he’s said that Peter Costello will be prime minister tomorrow.

(Do not take this post seriously, Craig is from the Chasers War on everything).

And Kerry O’Brien asked Minchin which seat did he put the biggest wall around🙂

We’re staying on ABC TV mostly, but occasionally switching to Prime.

Mark Riley first interviewed… Jackie Kelly. First question: “Have you just lost the Liberals the election?”!!!!

She goes on about how she knew nothing about Bogongate and Riley asks if she can understand people not believing it!!

Peter Beattie on the Prime panel says Jackie and her friends should be given life membership of the Labor Party!!

Jeff Kennett on same panel says that Jackie is normally a very outgoing person and you could see how different she was now.

Prime keeps cutting back to view of Jackie looking very, very pensive and methinks close to tears. I know I should feel a great wave of simple human sympathy for this poor suffering woman but, you know what, tonight for some reason I can’t🙂

37. r@tzRUS said

Couple of thoughts re. Bennelong:

1. huge turnout in manning booths for Maxine McKew is methinks 30% people who are fans of the fair Maxine, and the other 70% want to have their own small part in grinding The Rodent into the dust😉

2. if Bennelong is called before 8 pm, could that play to Labor in WA? I’m thinking of late-voting Liberal voters who want a Howard government back, but then find out that it can’t have Howard in it. And with Howard gone, there goes the certainty (?) of handing over to Costello, and in its place an all-in brawl for the new Liberal leadership. How many, in those circumstances, would say “stuff it” and vote Labor?

3. noted on the ABC a few minutes ago Antony Green brought up stats on Bennelong, and predicted even on early figures an ALP win. Great jubilation promptly erupted from the crowd in the Tally Room. Makes me proud to be a Canberran!🙂

38. mick said

r@tzRUS – that could play both ways. People also might jump ship once they realize it’s done.

Possum,
Congratulations on an excellent job. I told friends that they could relax and switch on the telly at 8.00pm just to confirm what you had predicted, with the usual minor statistical variations.

No one else seems to have articulated this, so I will do so now: this has been a triumph of good analytical science over mumbo-jumbo (as put out by the MSM). This is more significant than people realise. In these days of clearly biased “opinion” in the MSM which has helped to perpetuate the coalition spin and “culture wars” (known in old-fashioned terms as propaganda) it is vital to have much more objective analysis on which voters can depend. As a computer scientist who has been just marginally involved in the growth of the Internet, I am so happy that it has become a positive force for good. Concerned citizens can now take greater control of the information that is available, and this is bound to be better for democracy. Hopefully, the MSM will take note and also improve. I find it hard to believe that people like Piers Ackerman etc. actually have jobs in the MSM.

And to all those here who are celebrating (like me) please ensure that the new government is held to account in the same way. I am old but I have children growing up here. The future is important and politics is not the same as footy. You cannot just barrack for your club. What they actually do is important.

But for now, I’m sure the alcohol(drug of choice)is flowing. Celebrate on!

You and William have sustained my faith in being able to achieve the result we all won yesterday. You have been brilliant!!

“Old academic” and “What old academic said” have already articulated my view of your impact and style – I too have consoled friends and family with your predictions.

The MSM should be both shamed and ashamed! Let their rationalisations begin!

Yesterday we collectively repudiated John Howard’s narrow bigotted and self indulgent view of the world. We showed him and his cohorts that we are much better than that.

I found Downers leadership position interesting

Was typed as

I found [a href=”http://www.abc.net.au/news/stories/2007/11/26/2101876.htm”]Downers[/a] leadership position interesting

You can add a title so that some text is displayed when the mouse hovers over the link.

Bold, Italics, and Strikethrough

To make text appear as bold, it needs to be preceded by the b tag and finished with a /b tag.

For example
I want This word bold.

Was typed as
I want This word bold.

The same can be done using italics

For example
I want This word italicised.

Was typed as
I want This word italicised.

And Strikethrough

For example
It was a victory for Liberal Labor on Saturday.

Was typed as
It was a victory for [strike]Liberal[/strike] Labor on Saturday.

Poss,

I’m happy with the final draft as above.

I was hoping to post it to the current thread (howards legacy)and then it can be linked back to whenever someone has questions.

So if you want, you can delete all that i’ve done so far and i’ll post a new one in the howards legacy thread.

Note there were some in other threads, i came here because it wasnt active.

I’ll cut it out and paste it as a separate page, and link to it at the top where I have Contact, Newspoll Quarterly and that stuff.

Thankyou muchly.

No problem,

After helping out Lomandra & Crikey Whitey, i figured some people might need a bit of help with some of the new toys that can be played with.

And as a footnote,

Cite & Emphasis seems to be another word for Italicise.
Strong seems to be another words for Bold.
Code makes the text a fixed width font, and i cant see a reason anyone would want to do that here (not included in tutorial)

Abbreviations and acronyms i just went WTF.
Del could be this message will self destruct at … (too detailed)
